Emergent learning from the inaugural year of moderation supported with evidence from 2024 moderation submissions.
This presentation will review some of the key features arising from the first year of NZQA moderation for this new standard. It embodies the conference aim to understand art making as an integrated part of the lives of ākonga, as local curriculum, self- identity and regional place-based learning were all notable approaches to the delivery of this standard in 2024.
The presentation will be preceded by a brief summary of the use of AI in Visual Arts delivery and assessment and external assessment messages. This will be followed by an in-depth look at:
• expectations related to including mātauranga Māori (Explanatory Note 2).
• Alignment of selected mātauranga Māori contexts and other contexts • criteria step-ups at each grade for exploration, examination and reflection.
• supporting ākonga through a practice-based inquiry across both contexts
• managing moderation submission requirements

There will be a Q&A session after the presentation for clarifications and burning questions.
